Meet Ben
If it's helpful to know a little about me, here's the short version.
I studied Engineering Science at Oxford, rowed in the Boat Race three times, and represented Great Britain. Two burst discs forced an early retirement from rowing - but they haven't stopped me testing my limits. I now regularly run 100km+ and am training for Badwater 135: 135 miles through Death Valley in extreme heat, it's the world's toughest footrace.
I'm as happy discussing strategy with a CEO as working out warehouse operations on the floor. I believe we're social beings — I'd far rather meet in person than have another online meeting. Don't be surprised if I run to your office.
So, what’s with the yellow wig?
I care about applying problem-solving to causes that matter. In 2021, I ran a 12x12x12 challenge - 12 hours non-stop, in 12 UK locations, in each of the 12 months - raising over £15,400 for mental health and Samaritans.
That spirit led me to co-found Allegr, a social enterprise building digital platforms that drive real-world human connection — not the addictive, isolating kind. Our main community, Military App, now supports thousands of UK veterans and their families. Research from the University of Bristol showed clear improvements in wellbeing among members.
The charitable side of this work is The Allegr Foundation, which runs Walk+Talk - free community walks that help people feel less alone, one step at a time. My Badwater135 attempt will raise funds for the Foundation.
